Overview

The Tree Love Campaign offers you an illustrated poetry book, The Tao of Trees, that your members and visitors will love. $5 from each book goes directly to your garden. This book is presented at your site through a free Poetry Reading/performance that everyone can enjoy to experience the healing power of trees. The Tree Love Campaign is the perfect event for New York Community Gardens.

It's been hard to sustain your garden and protect it from greedy developers, storms and lack of resources . But your worse (and invisible) enemy is public apathy. Public support is your greatest ally, but to garner this support it is crucial that more people become passionate about the presence of trees, plants and nature in their urban environment. With stress, disease and lack of communal space rampant, why don't more people support your garden?

Poet, artist and shaman Maria Mar has wondered about this. She realized that humans often take for granted the most vital things in life, like love, air and health. It is not until these things are threatened that we snap out of our sleep and cherish these gifts. But we can't wait till the Earth is destroyed to wake up to our vital connection to Earth!

The Tree Love Campaign aims to reconnect people to trees, plants and Earth Mother at a deep, emotional level so that they become aware of the importance of trees for all human and planetary life and participate in saving trees. It does it through the illustrated poetry book The Tao of Trees, by artist-poet-shaman Maria Mar, and the related products and events, which are available for your community garden to raise awareness and funds through our Tree Love Campaigns.

Reconnecting People with Trees

How do we reconnect people with nature?

Here's what Maria Mar has to say:

"Once upon a time not so long ago, I was also separated from nature. I remember that I rarely looked up at the sky, not noticing the many birds that bless the city. When I saw trees, all I felt was danger, fearing that a thief could be lurking in their midst!

Let me share with you the story of how I reconnected with trees and then I will invite you to help me give back to trees by allowing me to help your organization raise awareness and funds.

I discovered that at the core of our separation from the natural world lies a disconnection from our beautiful Sacred Self. When we connect to our BodySoul and feel the divine in us, we experience Oneness and know in our bones that we are part of the Natural and Sacred World.

I discover this through loss. In 2000 I lost my home due to a home environmental situation and found myself homeless and sick. Trees helped me heal and embrace life again after the disaster. In my healing process, I meditated with the trees. As I slowed down, I realized how exhausted I was. I had overworked and over-worried for so long that I had no reserve energy to face crisis. My immune system was weak. I suffered allergies from the home disaster. Yet, meditating with the trees brought me back to a place of serenity in my soul. It infused my breath with healing substance. It scraped away worry and fear and cleared my mind to appreciate what was truly important in life. Though time slowed down, my energy level rose and I regained my strength.

But the trees did more than help me heal! They reconnected me with the wisdom in my heart and the poetry in my soul. These "Poet-trees" --as I lovingly call them-- whispered poems and wisdom teachings that re-framed my entire life. But there was an extra gift! This healing process produced a beautiful illustrated poetry book."

The Tao of Trees

I've written the poetry book The Tao of Trees to share the story of my healing and to reveal the poems that the "Poet-trees" share with me during my convalescence. This poetry book creates a space I call "Sky mind" where your mind empties of worries and connects to the Natural and Sacred World. They pull you into the healing presence of trees. Hear the whispers of the "Poet-trees" as they reveal the path to presence, beauty and co-creation and counsel you on the Path of the Heart, the Paths to Freedom and Transformation and the Path of Healing.

The black and white illustrations communicate the magical presence and embodied messages of trees as I experienced them during my healing process.

I am launching this book by connecting to New York Gardens, because these oasis in the middle of my city are the brave messengers of Earth Mother reconnecting us to the love of trees. As a New Yorker, I want to contribute to these gardens that so often have provided me a nest to write poetry and renew my spirit.

New York Garden Partners

Our Garden Partners are New York Community Gardens that can present cultural events and want to raise awareness while they raise funds through the Tao of Trees poetry books and events.

This includes:

Community Gardens in New York (Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan and Queens) that present cultural events.
Coalitions, associations or green projects supporting these gardens or supporting the presence of nature in our urban environment.
Projects that help save trees through recycling paper, planting trees, reforesting and other practices.
Projects that educate the public on sound ecological practices to save trees.

There are four ways in which our Garden Partners can raise awareness while generating funds for their garden.

Local Direct Fundraiser
Local Cultural and Book Presentation
Extended Local/Online Event
Seasonal Local Campaign Partner

1. Local Direct Fundraiser

Purchase The Tao of Trees book at bulk rates, so that you can sell the book yourself directly. The books are sent from Amazon directly to your organization. You need to place a pre-paid order of a minimum of 25 books to qualify. As a Local Direct Fundraiser, you get the book at a large discount and raise more funds that when you present the book through us. If you can purchase a significant amount of books, you get up to half the price discount. Then you can raise up to $10 from each book sales.
This option is good for coalitions, associations, green projects that serve gardens or gardens with a large, active membership and mailing list. (See bulk rates here.)
- An example of a Local Direct Fundraiser would be if you purchase 1,000 books or more. At that bulk rate level, you get a 50% discount and end up paying only $10 for each book. You can sell the book at $20 in your local fundraiser and raise $10,000 with little effort. We offer you a free local event to present during the fundraiser. For orders of 1,000 or more books, we will create several free local events, so that you can offer the event at different gardens or in different days. We will work with you to satisfy the needs of your members and community.
- We provide a free local event with the book order. The beautiful Tao of Trees presentations will reconnect people to nature, inspiring them to care more for their trees and to become active in supporting your garden while providing them with an empowering, educational, entertaining and relaxing experience —a treat they will never forget!

If you can charge for special presentations, we can offer you additional events for your members, so that you can increase your fundraising. (See bulk rates and additional events here.)

If you purchase 100 books or more, we have additional events that you can offer for free to your members or visitors.

2. Local Cultural and Book Presentation With this option, you present our events and give us a table where we can sale the book, art portfolios and other products. $5 from each book and 25% from each sales of the other products goes to your organization. (See the products we offer in the Tree Love Campaign here.)

If you want immediate cash funds, encourage people to bring cash to the event and we'll seat down with you, show you the income and give you the funds from each sales right there.
If people use credit cards, we will give you a report on total purchases during the event and once the payments are clear we will send you a check or directly deposit the amount to your garden account.

This is the best option for small gardens, if you do not want to sell lots of books or if you don't have time or staff/volunteers to help raise funds by showing the book at different events.

3. Extended Local/Online Event An event is a great magnet for visitors, but it's here and gone... in a blink! What happens with all the people who could not attend that event? What happens with all the friends they would want to bring once they experience the event? You can provide an online event and raise additional funds through extending your local event to an online event.

If you have a good size, engaged mailing list and social media following, you can raise funds AFTER the local event at your garden by joining the Online Tree Love Campaign.

By sending emails and social media prompts to your list and followers, you can raise funds throughout the year, expand your outreach and give special treats to your members. (We will send you several downloadable treats to reward the members that spread the word or helped you in the campaign.)
You can even create an online fundraiser by offering one of our online events to inspire people, increase awareness and encourage people to help you raise funds through each book sales.

In the Online Tree Love Campaign, you open an account in our Gumroad online store and send an email with your special link to your people. The Gumroad store affiliate system automatically records you as the source of that transaction and if the person purchases, you get 25% of any purchase traced back to your special link. This money is directly deposited into your garden's bank account. Understand how it works here.

4. Seasonal Local Campaign Partner New York Community Gardens can also become a Seasonal Local Campaign Partner. The Seasonal Local Campaign Partner receives a 25% donation from all non-referred online sales of the book during a season. In other words, the 25% tree-saving donation from any online sale that was not referred by our Campaign Partners, is funneled towards your organization. If you want to raise funds after the event, but do not have a large mailing list, this is a great way to bring in additional funds while people find out about you.

Your Garden's name and address will be featured in the campaign/book sales page, so that people know that the funds for the season are going to your garden.

This is great for new or small gardens and for gardens that do not receive any official funds but are lovingly cared for by their community members. This initiative not only shows that you are taking action to bring income for your garden expenses, but it brings visibility to your garden to increase public support. Tao of Trees Poetry Reading

Inspiring and relaxing poetry reading of poems from The Tao of Trees poetry book in the healing voice of poet-storyteller-shaman Maria Mar.

It includes:

Choose duration of 30, 45 or 60 minutes.

Tao of Trees Poetry Journey

This soul-nourishing, tree-connecting experience is unforgettable. It is a multi-media Poetry performance and healing journey including:

Relaxation meditation
Poetry reading,
Projections of illustrations*
Live meditative music
Meditative and tree-connecting dances by Corazon Tierra, and
An interactive collective closure meditative dance, the Tree Smile Dance.

With poet-artist-shaman Maria Mar and dancer and somatic movement educator Corazon Tierra.

Choose duration of 45, 60 or 90 minutes. *You need to provide equipment.

Two spatial options for any of these events:

Gathering Circle: If you have an area for events, then the audience gathers in that area. This allows for all the elements in the presentation to be connected: Maria Mar's presence as she reads, the poetry dance by Corazon Tierra and the interaction with the audience. It also allows us to present the beautiful illustrations in the book projected on the background in the event area.
Screen projection requires events to be presented after sunset.
This spatial arrangement creates a ceremonial space for community bonding and a feeling of Oneness in the womb of nature.

Equipment: One microphone and amplifier recommended for noisy or large areas. Projector, screen and operator required for projection of illustrations.

Flow and Connect: If you do not have an area for events, but have good walkways, then the audience will be guided through a walking meditation that allows them to stop close to a plant, tree or flower that they want to connect to.
Maria will then read a poem from a central area while each person connects to their chosen plant.
In the dance performance, Corazon flows through space, selecting different areas for a tree dance.
You can encourage people to bring a cushion from home, provide them with folding chairs or place chairs strategically for those who need to seat.
This spatial arrangement creates a sense of sacred quest to bond with nature while highlighting the flow of your garden design.

Equipment: One microphone and amplifier required.

Online Events

Tao of Trees “Behind the Scenes” with the Author

The journey begins with a deep relaxation meditation and then Maria reads some poems and talks about the meaning, magic and medicine in the poems and illustrations.
Maria explores each of the seven paths in the Tao of Trees.
She has a lively conversation with a Q&A session and
We close the event with a tree-connection meditation.

This is available for gardens choosing the Extended Local Event, doing an online campaign after the local event.

60 minutes duration. We house the event at our online meeting room. We use a webinar format to present the slides.

Bonus Events

Book Signing

All garden events include a book signing after the event for those who purchase the book.

Talk with the Author

Maria speaks about the experience and life lessons happening behind the scenes as she healed and created the poems, the revelations and shamanic tools for life in the poems, and she answers questions with her mixture of humor, joy and soul-deep dives. It includes a warm conversation about life, health and living from the heart.

This is a Bonus after-the-event gathering for those who purchase the book. I invite the Garden whenever possible to add a glass of wine or refreshment for each person to this event, to bring the spirit of the Tertulia or Soiree to the event.

Announcing the talk at the end of the event motivates people to purchase the book to get all the juicy stories about the poems and toast with Maria.

Additional Events

Additional Events are presented at a different day than the regular local events. They can be presented in the garden or indoors. They require a silent, private and clean place where people feel safe and can concentrate. Additional Events are available at no cost to you when you purchase 100 books or more. You can charge or present them freely for your members. You can also book an additional event where we charge an entrance fee. Again, 25% of the income from the entrance, goes to your Garden.

Tao of Trees Paths Workshop. Choose one of the Paths in the book and Maria will guide your members in a journey through this path through poetry reading and writing, meditative art and energy movements. These paths are:
- The Path of Beauty: An experience of beauty, creativity and harmony where we contemplate the beauty of nature.
- The Path of the Heart: We open our hearts to love, gratitude, joy and celebration, receiving the love of Earth Mother.
- The Path of co-creation: We break away from isolation and separateness and experience that we are co-creating our life with our Creation Partners, including the Natural and Sacred Worlds.
- The Path of Presence: We release worry, stress, pushing and struggle and embrace the gift of the Present and the power of being present in our body, like trees.
- The Path of Transformation: We release resistance and blockages and open ourselves to the flow of life, allowing the blessings of trees, plants and flowers, air, light, birds and love to travel through us and help us embrace change, transmute crisis into a portal to our dreams and take our transformation as a transportation to our desired destination.
- The Path of Freedom: We let go of control, fear and doubts and boldly take ownership of our life, making choices towards living fully, releasing bondage, embodying our potential and shining in all our brilliance.
- The Path of Healing: We engage the green energy of Earth Mother and the Medicine of Trees, flowers and plants as partners for our self-healing process. We journey through our disease, limitations and imbalances and learn to transmute them into a stronger body, mind and soul.

The event for each path lasts 90 minutes. Chairs for participants and a table for us are required. One or more table for the participants are recommended. Mats for participants are recommended though not required. We bring the materials at no cost to you or the participants.

The main product we are using for the fundraiser is of course the poetry book, The Tao of Trees: Poems that reconnect you to the natural world and your sacred self.

The book has premium editions and there are other related products. 25% of the sales of any product goes to the Garden. Donation from cash sales is delivered immediately. Donation from credit card or check payment is reported and sent in one payment once checks or credit cards are cleared.

The Poetry Book

The Poetry Book, basic paperback edition. This book will be printed as a paperback by our CreateSpace/Amazon printer and distributor and sent by Amazon to each buyer. $20 USA
There are three Premium Editions of the book:
- Audio Edition: includes the paperback plus The Tao of Trees poetry audio meditation. Delivered in MP3 format and immediately downloadable. The audios consist of seven tracks covering the seven paths in the book. $45 USA
- Portfolio Edition: includes the paperback plus a portfolio of 10 popular illustrations in the book, the Message Illustration and a customized Thank You illustration, for a total of 12 black and white illustrations. $45 USA

Sign up to Gumroad online store account.

Make sure to set up your financial information so that Gumroad can send your affiliate income from each sales directly into your bank account.

Step 3

Send us an email letting us know you signed up.

This must be the same email you used to sign up and the Tao of Trees products you want to promote.

Do not send any password or other information about your Gumroad account.

Step 4

We then sign you as affiliate to whatever books/products you chose and send you a unique affiliate link for each product. Make sure you get this email and set up your online campaign using those links. If you don't use those links, Gumroad system cannot trace the sale back to you.

Step 5

Use those links to launch your Tree Love Campaign via email and social media.

We sill send you email and social media text that you can easily adapt. When people buy using those links, Gumroad automatically assigns you the percentage as an affiliate and pays you according to their timeline.

How it works:

Local Garden Partners

It's easy and simple.

You email us, letting us know what days/time work for a follow-up call and your email, name and phone number.
We contact you and we talk in a video conference (online) or by phone.
You choose the fundraising set up you prefer and the event you want.
We set up a date and a rain date for the event at your garden.
We show up early and set up our table and check the use of space, equipment, etc.
People show up and have fun! Woohoo!!!
We (or you, if you chose Local Direct Fundraiser) offer the book and other products at the table and raise funds from the sales.
Maria Mar signs the book to the visitors who purchased it.
Everyone goes home happy!
You can make your trees, plants and flowers happier with the resources you can now use.

Online Campaign Partners:

If you don't have an engage mailing list that is used to clicking, reading and buying when you send them emails or an active social media presence, skip this. Online fundraising is not for you at this point.

Again, the online campaign requires that you set up an account and other tasks you must do online. It may take a couple of hours, but if you have a good mailing list and social media following, it can add up to your fundraising. So take it easy, but read it through. (Or get a computer savvy member to deal with it.)

1.The Set-up

The Set up consist of filling the form below (no obligation), our meeting and setting up your Gumroad account.

We will follow up to answer all your questions and design a fundraiser that fits your needs within our offers. We can meet face-to-face if it's more convenient to you.

When you are ready, you sign up for the Gumroad store, get your bank account verified to receive direct deposits from Gumroad (or via PayPal for out of the USA organizations).

When a book is sold, Gumroad automatically sends 25% of the sale income from that book to your bank account. Finally, you send us the email you use in your Gumroad Account so that we include you as an affiliate. We send you an affiliate link for each product you want to promote. During our meeting we will set up the event you want to use, if any. We will send you a Campaign Partner Agreement that your CEO needs to sign. This lets us know that all is legit from your part and that your organization is an official partner. Online signature is possible. Now you are ready to go.

2. The Promotion

Once you join our campaign as a Campaign Partner, you agree to send promotion to your members, audiences or communities at a mutually agreed date or dates.

We send you promotional material that you can adapt to your own organizational mission and audiences. As part of our Tree Love Campaigns, you agree to promote the campaign to your members and community by sending a minimum of two direct emails to your mailing list and to do daily social media sharing during the week. We don't want you to spam your members. But people forget, they don't read the first email, etc. Two emails is the minimum to send to get a good response. Make them enjoyable and different from each other and people won't get upset.

You must use your unique affiliate link in all your promotional materials. When you do, all sales are automatically traced to you by the Gumroad system and you will get the agreed affiliate percent from those sales (25%) sent to you automatically.

3. The Event

OPTIONAL

As a Campaign Partner you can choose from our roster of online events to present an online event after your local event, during your chosen campaign dates. Online events are free to you.

If you've ever attended an online webinar, then that's the structure of the event. We'll set it up at our online webinar service, we'll send you the link and you invite everyone. During the event, you will be able to invite attendants to purchase the book using your special link, so that 25% of the sales are tracked back to your garden. An online event allows you to offer value and a cultural enjoyable event instead of just asking people to buy. People are more likely to purchase the book because you've given them an inspiring experience.

4.The Funds

The normal affiliate percent for the book in a regular online campaign is 25% from the non-discounted book at $20 which comes to $5 per book. Let’s say you have a mailing list of 20,000 people with engagement rates of 30%. If 4,000 people purchase the book, that is $20,000 you just raised, plus an unforgettable experience connecting your people with trees and helping them relax, heal and appreciate the benefits that trees bring to their lives. All of this with around 10 hours of total work (setup, meeting, promotion, event and follow-up).

About Maria Mar

Hi, I am Maria Mar, poet, artist, storyteller and shaman. I help people awaken their creative genius and use it to change their lives from within and live their brilliance.

I am the creatress of several personal growth systems using the arts, such as The Bewomaning Experience^tm, Story Alchemy^tm, Artchemy^tmand Creative Freedom Alchemy^tm.

I’ve worked with more than 60 non-profit community and cultural organizations. I've also taught poetry, art and creative writing in the New York schools. I've worked with homeless women, abused women, minority women, artists and families, youth and children. I've support the empowerment of women in three continents.

I was also the founder and CEO of Ecuelecuá Interarts, a non-profit interactive theater organization for the prevention and creative solutions of social problems --such as family violence and violence against women, AIDs and other social issues-- as well as for the empowerment of women.

I have decades of devotion to inspiring, empowering and educating people through the arts. I'm aware of what it takes to create social --as well as personal change-- and to raise funds for one's cause. I have created the Tree Love Campaign to support your organization as a path to give thanks and give back to the trees that saved my life and nurture life on earth every day.
