But you also know that we humans often forget this vital fact and –like the air we breathe– we give trees for granted. In your work, you are probably frustrated by the number of  people who are so disconnected from nature that they fail to realize that if we destroy trees we destroy the planet and ourselves.

The Tree Love Campaign aims to reconnect people to trees at a deep, emotional level so that they become aware of the importance of trees for all human and planetary life and participate in saving trees. It does it through the illustrated poetry book The Tao of Trees, by artist-poet-shaman Maria Mar, and the related products and events, which are available for you to raise awareness and funds during our Tree Love Campaigns.

How do we reconnect people with nature?

Once upon a time not so long ago, I was also separated from nature. I remember that I rarely looked up at the sky, not noticing the many birds that bless the city. When I saw trees, all I felt was danger, fearing that a thief could be lurking in their midst!

Let me share with you the story of how I reconnected with trees and then I will invite you to help me give back to trees by allowing me to help your organization raise awareness and funds.

I discovered that at the core of our separation from the natural world lies a disconnection from our beautiful Sacred Self. When we connect to our BodySoul and feel the divine in us, we experience Oneness and know in our bones that we are part of the Natural and Sacred World.

I discover this through loss. In 2000 I lost my home due to a home environmental situation and found myself homeless and sick. Trees helped me heal and embrace life again after the disaster. In my healing process, I meditated with the trees. As I slowed down, I realized how exhausted I was. I had overworked and over-worried for so long that I had no reserve energy to face crisis. My immune system was weak. I suffered allergies from the home disaster. Yet, meditating with the trees brought me back to a place of serenity in my soul. It infused my breath with healing substance. It scraped away worry and fear and cleared my mind to appreciate what was truly important in life. Though time slowed down, my energy level rose and I regained my strength.

But the trees did more than help me heal! They reconnected me with the wisdom in my heart and the poetry in my soul. These “Poet-trees” –as I lovingly call them– whispered poems and wisdom teachings that re-framed my entire life. But there was an extra gift! This healing process produced a beautiful illustrated poetry book.

The Tao of Trees

I’ve written the poetry book The Tao of Trees to share the story of my healing and to reveal the poems that the “Poet-trees” share with me during my convalescence. This poetry book creates a space I call “Sky mind” where your mind empties of worries and connects to the Natural and Sacred World. They pull you into the healing presence of trees. Hear the whispers of the “Poet-trees” as they reveal the path to presence, beauty and co-creation and counsel you on the Path of the Heart, the Paths to Freedom and Transformation and the Path of Healing.

The black and white illustrations communicate the magical presence and embodied messages of trees as I experienced them during my healing process.

These poems emptied my mind of worries, noise and rush. They took me to a silent place within myself, where I am free of mental narratives. Through both, the words and the illustrations, the embodiment of trees in this book helped me inhabit the peace that arises when the present moment becomes the primary experience of the Self.”

Campaign Partners

Our Campaign Partners are institutions that:

  • Help save trees through recycling paper, planting trees, reforesting and other practices.
  • Educate the public on sound ecological practices to save trees.
  • Cultural organizations with ecological programs that inspire and educate people on saving trees.
  • Non-profit nature sites, gardens and other organizations connecting people to nature.
  • Other non-profit ecological organizations working towards saving our beautiful Earth, with special emphasis on or programs focusing on trees.

Three types of Campaign Partners

There are three types of Campaign Partners: Local, online or Seasonal Local.

  • There are two ways to raise funds for your organization using Tao of Trees poetry book, locally or online.
  • Local events are available only for USA organizations.
  • Any organization from any part of the world can join as a Campaign Partner for the online campaign and enjoy a free online event.
  • For NY Community Gardens and community engagement tree-saving organizations, we also offer them an optional invitation to be our Seasonal Local Campaign Partner.

Local Fundraiser

  • This is the traditional way to use books as a fundraiser, by purchasing at bulk rates and then selling the books to raise funds.
    • Purchase our book at bulk rates and sell them to raise funds. An example of a local fundraiser would be if you purchase 1,000 books or more. At that bulk rate level, you get a 50% discount and end up paying only $10 for each book. You can sell the book at $20 in your local fundraiser and raise $10,000 with little effort and no additional staff. We even offer you a local or online event to present during the fundraiser.*
    • The more books you purchase, the lower the bulk rate and therefore the more funds you can raise. When you order a bulk rate, we have online events that we will present at no additional cost to your members.
    • We can also provide a local event with the book order (USA only). Our Tao of Trees local events enrich a fundraiser by creating an exciting and relaxing event paired with the book, making people’s contributions to your fundraising more than worthwhile for them. You can charge for a fundraiser event that includes the book and that allows you to charge $50 or more per ticket instead of just the cost of the book. The beautiful Tao of Trees presentations  will reconnect people to nature, inspiring them to care more for their trees while providing them with an empowering, educational, entertaining and relaxing experience —a treat they will never forget!
    • If you do not want to incur in presentation expenses, we can provide a free online event for you. With a big screen at your site, this event can enrich your local fundraiser and it will be second best to having us there in-person.
    • New York Community Gardens can enjoy a free presentation with their local fundraiser. They can also become a Seasonal Local Campaign Partner and join the online campaign to raise even more funds outside the event.

Terms Local Events for our Partners

  • *Local events are offered within the USA only.
    • Local events require presentation fee unless we can match you with a sponsor. We are NY based and give priority to events on New York or the Tri-state area. Presentation fees cover the fees for our cast.
    • For events out of NY, your organization needs to pay the presentation fees plus the costs for travel, transportation, room and board. Transportation includes plane/train tickets. Room, board and travel costs include 2 meals a day per performer, hotel fees, taxi cabs, etc. Hotel rooms and plane/train tickets must be purchased and verified before we travel.  50% of Presentation Fees will be paid before the event (non-reimbursable unless we cancel) and the rest immediately upon completion (at the end of performance).
    • You need to provide technical crew for setting up/running audio-visual equipment.

 

  • Online events are free for our Campaign Partners.
  • Events for local NY Community Gardens are free to our Campaign Partners. This includes Community Gardens in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx. You must present the book and allow for book sales in the event. Read more.

 

Online Fundraiser

  • Join our campaign by promoting the Tao of Trees as an online fundraiser event.
    • This is the easiest way to partner with us because:
    • You only have to send promotion (2 direct emails and daily social media sharing for the week of the campaign).
    • You bare no upfront cost, as you don’t even have to order books!
    • You can also go global in your fundraiser and do not need to assign a staff person for the campaign, just a contact person to communicate with us and send the promotion.
    • Also, you are in control of the financial process because once you open a Gumroad account and we send your affiliate link, the store automatically sends the money once it is available to your organizational bank account via direct deposit. There is a 30 day wait pending returns. After that you get your income in a week. Gumroad pays every other Friday.
    • We take care of collecting shipping and handling fees, NY taxes, ordering the books to our CreateSpace/Amazon account and Amazon delivers the book to the customer.
    • Gumroad takes care of all financial transactions in a safe, secure, legal environment.
    • So all you do is promotion and perhaps present a cultural/educational online event –which we can provide.
    • Online events are free to our Campaign Partners. Thanks to modern technology, we can provide an intimate, inspiring, relaxing and nature-connecting online experience that your members can enjoy from the comfort of their home (or gathered at your site) without traveling expenses to you.

New York Community Gardens

As  Local Campaign Partner, New York Community Gardens and other New York community engagement tree-saving organizations enjoy a free presentation at their garden during the campaigns or during summer.

  • You present the book in your garden and generate $5 from each book sale at the event.
  • We provide a free short presentation for the event.
  • You can also join the online campaign to raise even more funds outside the event. By sending an email to your list and encouraging them to share your partner link, you can raise funds even after the event.

 

Seasonal Local Campaign Partner

New York Community Gardens and other New York community engagement and tree-saving organizations can also become a Seasonal Local Campaign Partner.

The Seasonal Local Campaign Partner receives all non-referred sales during a season. In other words, any sale that was not referred by our Campaign Partners, is funneled towards your organization.

Only ONE Seasonal Local Campaign Partner per season.

You can partner with us during these campaigns:

  • Spring:
    • Week of April 22 Earth day, ending on last Friday in April to celebrate New York Arbor Day.
    • Week of May 16 National Tree Love Day
  • Summer:
    • Tree Love Summer Campaign, from July 25 to July 29.
  • If you are located outside the USA, you can contact us for a fundraising event during your local Arbor Day or other special date (April through July only.)

Local Events

  • Tao of Trees Poetry Reading– Inspiring and relaxing poetry reading of The Tao of Trees poetry book in the healing voice of poet-storyteller-shaman Maria Mar with the beautiful illustrations in the book projected on the background. Choose duration of 30, 45 or 60 minutes. Projector, one microphone and screen required.*
  • Tao of Trees Poetry Journey– This soul-nourishing, tree-connecting experience is unforgettable. It is a multi-media Poetry performance and healing journey including: relaxation meditation, poetry reading, projections of illustrations, live music, meditative and tree-connecting dances and the interactive collective closure dance, the Tree Smile Dance. With poet-artist-shaman Maria Mar, dancer and somatic movement educator Corazon Tierra and accompanying musician. Choose duration of 45, 60 or 90 minutes. Projector, 3 microphones and amplifying system and screen required, except for Community Garden presentations.*
  • BONUS! Book signing after the event.

Online Events

  • Tao of Trees Poetry Reading– Same as the local poetry reading, but online. Choose duration of 30, 45 or 60 minutes. We can house the event at our online meeting room or your online facilities. We use a webinar format to present the slides.
  • Tao of Trees Live Poetry Journey– Same as the local live poetry performance and journey, but online. Does not include the dance component but includes relaxation meditation, poetry reading, projections of illustrations, live music and the guidance through the collective closure dance: the Tree Smile Dance. Choose duration of 60 or 90 minutes. We can house the event at our online meeting room or your online facilities. We use a webinar format to present the slides.
  • Tao of Trees “Behind the Scenes” Journey with the Author: The journey begins with a deep relaxation meditation and then Maria reads some poems and talks about the meaning, magic and medicine in the poems and illustrations. Maria explores each of the seven paths in the Tao of Trees. She has a lively conversation with a Q&A session and closes the event with a tree-connection meditation. 60 minutes duration. We can house the event at our online meeting room or your online facilities. We use a webinar format to present the slides.
  • Tao of Trees Poetry Reading and Tree Love Ceremony– This poetry reading is longer and has more ecological content. Your organization introduces the reading and sets the ecological intention of the event. Then we present the poetry reading with the illustrations and finally we guide people through a ceremony to send love to trees in their local areas, to endangered zones and to Earth Mother (or other areas you want to focus on). We end with the Tree Smile Dance. Duration is 90 minutes. We can house the event at our online meeting room or your online facilities. We use a webinar format to present the slides.

Products Available

The main product we are using for the fundraiser is of course the poetry book, The Tao of Trees: Poems that reconnect you to the natural world and your sacred self.

The book has premium editions and there are other related products. 25% of the sales of any product goes to the Campaign Partner whose affiliate link the buyer used. (Read more about how it works below.)

What to do:

  • Step 2: Sign up to Gumroad online store account. Make sure to set up your financial information so that Gumroad can send your affiliate income from each sales directly into your bank account.
  • Step 3: Send us an email letting us know you signed up. This must be the email you used to sign up and the Tao of Trees products you want to promote. Do not send any password or other information about your Gumroad account.
  • Step 4: We then sign you as affiliate to whatever books/products you chose and send you a unique affiliate link for each.
  • Step 5: You use those links in your emails and social media. We sill send you email and social media text that you can easily adapt. You send those emails and social media prompts during the Tree Love Campaign. When people buy using those links, Gumroad automatically assigns you the percentage as an affiliate and pays you according to their timeline. How it works:

  • The Set-up: The Set up consist of filling the form below (no obligation.) We will follow up to answer all your questions and design a fundraiser that fits your needs within our offers. We can meet face-to-face if it’s more convenient to you. When you are ready, you sign up for the Gumroad store, get your bank account verified to receive direct deposits from Gumroad (or via PayPal for out of the USA organizations). When a book is sold, Gumroad automatically sends 25% of the sale income from that book to your bank account. Finally, you send us the email you use in your Gumroad Account so that we include you as an affiliate. We send you an affiliate link for each product you want to promote. During our meeting we will set up the event you want to use, if any. We will send you a Campaign Partner Agreement that your CEO needs to sign. This lets us know that all is legit from your part and that your organization is an official partner. Online signature is possible. Now you are ready to go.
  • The Promotion: Once you join our campaign as a Campaign Partner, you agree to send promotion to your members, audiences or communities during the week of the campaign. We send you promotional material that you can adapt to your own organizational mission and audiences. As part of our Tree Love Campaigns, you agree to promote the campaign to your members and community by sending a minimum of two direct emails to your mailing list and to do daily social media sharing during the week of the campaign. You must use your unique affiliate link in all your promotional materials. When you do, all sales are automatically traced to you by the Gumroad system and you will get the agreed  affiliate percent from those sales (25%) sent to you automatically. You may also use an online event as part of your campaign.
  • The Event: As a Campaign Partner you can choose from our roster of events. Local events require presentation fees unless we can match you with a sponsor. Online events are free to you. Once you join the campaign, we agree on a date and time and on that date we offer the event to your community, members or audiences at no cost to you or them, as part of the Tree Love Campaign. During the online event, there are build-in pauses for you as a Campaign Partner to encourage your audiences to purchase the book and to explain how this benefits your organization and helps save trees.
  • The Funds: The normal affiliate percent for the book in a regular online campaign is 25% from the non-discounted book at $20 which comes to $5 per book. Let’s say you have a mailing list of 20,000 people with engagement rates of 30%. If 4,000 people purchase the book, that is $20,000 you just raised, plus an unforgettable experience connecting your people with trees and helping them relax, heal and appreciate the benefits that trees bring to their lives. All of this with around 20 hours of total work (setup, meeting, promotion, event and follow-up).

Hi, I am Maria Mar, poet, artist, storyteller and shaman. I help people awaken their creative genius and use it to change their lives from within and live their brilliance. I am the creatress of several personal growth systems using the arts, such as The Bewomaning Experiencetm, Story Alchemytm, Artchemytmand Creative Freedom Alchemytm.

I’ve worked with more than 60 non-profit community and cultural organizations. I’ve also taught poetry, art and creative writing in the New York schools. I’ve worked with homeless women, abused women, minority women, artists and families, youth and children. I’ve support the empowerment of  women in three continents.

I was also the founder and CEO of Ecuelecuá Interarts, a non-profit interactive theater organization for the prevention and creative solutions of social problems –such as family violence and violence against women, AIDs and other social issues– as well as for the empowerment of women.
