Why have we destroyed so many natural resources in less than a century?
As a people we have been gradually disconnected from nature until we take it for granted and fail to realize that if we destroy trees we destroy the planet and ourselves.
How do we reconnect people to nature?
Once upon a time not so long ago, I was also separated from nature. I remember that I rarely looked up at the sky, not noticing the many birds that blessed the city. When I saw trees, all I felt was danger, fearing that a thief could be lurking in their midst!
Let me share with you the story of how I reconnected with trees and then I will invite you to help me give back to trees by sponsoring the Tree Love Campaign. You can skip the story and find out about the campaign here.
I discovered that at the core of our separation from the natural world lies a disconnection from our beautiful Sacred Self. When we connect to our BodySoul, we experience in our bones that we are part of the Natural and Sacred World.
I discover this through loss. In 2000 I lost my home due to a home environmental situation and found myself homeless and sick. Trees helped me heal and embrace life again after the disaster. In my healing process, I meditated with the trees. As I slowed down, I realized how exhausted I was. I had overworked and over-worried for so long that I had no reserve energy to face crisis. My immune system was weak. I suffered allergies from the home disaster. Yet, meditating with the trees brought me back to a place of serenity in my soul. It infused my breath with healing substance. It scraped away worry and fear and cleared my mind to appreciate what was truly important in life. Though time slowed down, my energy level rose and I regained my strength.
But the trees did more than help me heal! They reconnected me with the wisdom in my heart and the poetry in my soul. These “Poet-trees” –as I lovingly call them– whispered poems and wisdom teachings that re-framed my entire life. The result of this healing process was a beautiful illustrated poetry book.
The Tao of Trees Book
I’ve written the poetry book The Tao of Trees to share the story of my healing and to reveal the poems that the “Poet-trees” share with me during my convalescence. This poetry book creates a space I call “Sky mind” where your mind empties of worries and connects to the Natural and Sacred World. They pull you into the healing presence of trees. Hear the whispers of the “Poet-trees” as they reveal the path to presence, beauty and co-creation and counsel you on the Path of the Heart, the Paths to Freedom and Transformation and the Path of Healing.
The black and white illustrations communicate the magical presence and embodied messages of trees as I experienced them during my healing process.
These poems emptied my mind of worries, noise and rush. They took me to a silent place within myself, where I am free of mental narratives. Through both, the words and the illustrations, the embodiment of trees in this book helped me inhabit the peace that arises when the present moment becomes the primary experience of the Self.”

Now that the book is finished, I want to use it as a vehicle to give back to the trees and to Earth Mother.

Campaign Sponsors
As a business owner, corporate leader or institutional decision-maker, you have the power to bring the Tree Love Campaigns to your clients, staff or members. When you do this, you:
- Spread inner peace, harmony and beauty in your environment,
- Help in the self-healing process of your people,
- Contribute significantly to our goals of connecting people with trees, saving trees and earth, and
- Generate a deeper connection with, gratitude from and a positive brand in your community.
Our campaigns usually coincide with International Earth Day, local Arbor Days and National Tree Day in the USA and take place in Spring and Summer. When you become a Campaign Sponsor you have options.
Three Types of Sponsors
There are three types of sponsors.
- Brand Sponsor: You engage us in providing your staff or clients with an experience that connects them to the spirit of trees. This may take the form of creating a gift bag with The Tao of Trees book and/or to present a Tao of Trees event for your staff or clients. In this case you are the presenter and you are engaging our resources to serve your audiences.
- Institutional Sponsor: You sponsor our local or online events or our resources, empowering our Campaign Partners to present these events as part of their fundraising efforts. In this case, you are making possible that the ecological organizations that want to raise funds and awareness using our resources are able to do this at no cost to them. This can take the form of sponsoring our online events for a year, sponsoring one or more local events or sponsoring a batch of books that the organizations can distribute at no cost or use to raise funds.
- Seasonal Sponsor: You sponsor one season or one year in the Tree Love Campaign.
Brand Sponsor
- Institutional Package: Purchase a bulk order of The Tao of Trees books and place them in your corporate bag for a special occasion, distributing it among your staff, members or clients.
- Institutional Event package: Purchase an Institutional Package that includes a bulk book order and a special Tao of Trees event for your community, staff or members. Place the book inside a gift bag with your branding at the event.
Institutional Sponsor
- Sponsor our seasonal online events, allowing us to provide these events at no cost to our Campaign Partners.
- Sponsor one or several local events at the sites of our Campaign Partners, empowering them to create a fundraising or educational event.
- Sponsor a large batch of The Tao of Trees books that tree-saving organizations can distribute at no cost or use to raise funds.
Your branding as sponsor will be significantly displayed in website, emails, events and local publicity.
Events sponsored by you will include your company name and logos as EVENT SPONSOR
in the event program, slideshow and book gift bag.
Books sponsored by you will include a Book Sponsor Recognition Label
with your company’s name, URL and logos in the inside front cover.
Seasonal Sponsor
- Sponsor a season or a year in our Tree Love Campaign.
Our Seasonal Campaigns
Our seasons are:
- Spring:
- National and Worldwide Earth Day, for five days on the week ending on April 22 and continues until Arbor day (last Friday in April.)
- National Love a Tree Day: for five days, ending on May 16.
- Summer:
- Tree Love Summer Campaign, from July 25 to July 29.
- As an organization or a sponsor, you can engage us for a campaign for your state or national Arbor or Earth Day.
Your branding as sponsor will be significantly displayed in website, emails, events and local publicity.
Your branding as Seasonal Sponsor will have TOP SPONSOR RECOGNITION

About Maria Mar
I’ve worked with more than 60 non-profit community and cultural organizations. I’ve also taught poetry, art and creative writing in the New York schools. I’ve worked with homeless women, abused women, minority women, artists and families, youth and children. I’ve support the empowerment of women in three continents.
I was also the founder and CEO of Ecuelecuá Interarts, a non-profit interactive theater organization for the prevention and creative solutions of social problems –such as family violence and violence against women, AIDs and other social issues– as well as for the empowerment of women.
I have decades of devotion to inspiring, empowering and educating people through the arts. I’m aware of what it takes to create social –as well as personal change– and to raise funds for one’s cause.
As the CEO of my own corporation, I now know the responsibility that comes with power and I thrive to do good while doing well.
