Dear — I often think of you. Are you going through something alone? The other day in a fabulous poetry reading of the Breaking Ground Poetry Anthology in New York, a friend told me that she felt lonely. It shocked me because she is such a popular person! So I thought of you. Are you lonely? Is my monthly letter getting to you? Have I made it clear that I’m here for you? You are in my thoughts and my heart because you are the reason for my existence. I was born to inspire you, to champion your dreams, to egg you onto your freedom. But I also wonder. Did you get the last story I wrote? Did it inspire you? I often receive replies telling me that something I wrote was God-sent, as if I was reading the person’s thoughts. |

And that’s what I want. I want to read your heart at a distance, so that I can write the exact story you need. But lately I wonder if ~in my effort not to spam you~ I may have neglected you. I know that I sent you the option of getting into the newsletters that respond to your goals, but many of you who told me that you wanted to MagicMark your life for several reasons have not really used the optional resources I offer. So I’m thinking. Am I in your mind when you need help? Inspiration? Guidance? Do you know that I’m here for you? Do you feel forgotten or neglected by me because I don’t send as many things as I used to? We are so bombarded by noise, by grabbing hands that want our attention, our money, our time! I don’t want to grab you. I want to hug you. I want to hug you when you feel alone. I want to be there for you when you need support. I look at the women around me and I know. Oh Goddess! How much we give. How present we are for others. But then, when it comes to ourselves, I see the vacant expression, the guilt. Some of us go running to look for some problem, just so that we do not have to take care of ourselves or God help us! …Build our own dreams. |

A friend of mine who frequently complaints about her work and how overwhelming it can get surprised me the other day when she told me that it was the first day of her vacation, and she was depressed. “Why?” I asked. “I don’t know. I’m just down. I feel sad, lost. I don’t know what to do.”

We are so habituated to be there for others, but being there for ourselves may be unfamiliar. And when we cannot be there for ourselves, three things happen:
Everything that I see reminds me of you. Everything that I hear reminds me of you. Are you going through a similar thing? And when I go through something, I ask myself if my story will help you. My guess is that it does. Because you are my mirror. There is a word in Mayan that I love: “In ‘la ‘kesh” It means “I am your other self. You are my other self. We are one.” That is the magic of love, empathy and storytelling. In sharing my story, I bring you into your own story. In sharing my heart, I bring you into your heart. And that is my ecstasy. |

When I receive feedback from you, I get all teary and cheery. I treasure them in a Treasure Box that I see whenever I need cheering, whenever I doubt if I’m doing a good job. Here’s a note from Debra, who sent me flowers! I heard a knock on the door and there it was, a happy, gorgeous bouquet of flowers! Debra is an inspirer. Her heart is full of gratitude, and she wanted to express her gratitude, so she sent me flowers. There are no words to express the joy I felt. It made me feel received, that I am making a difference in your lives. That’s why I love you, sisters. You are heart-smart, not just intelligent. You are connected to Soul and do not allow the noise and business of this world to steal your humanity, your deeply caring heart, your love for beauty and value. And that’s why I am here for you. That’s why I think of you in every story I write and every journey I create. What is in my heart is: Will they love it? Will this free them from whatever limitations they are struggling with? Will this inspire them? Am I championing them as they need so that they can be their brilliance in the world?” So keep your comments coming! You know that I changed the newsletter to a letter (and now I’m changing it to a Love Letter) so that you could reply, so that we could come closer and really, truly communicate. Do you feel my love? You are not alone! I personally read every word in every reply you send me. And I personally respond to it. |
